Germany is the largest euro market on Google Shopping, so up to 25% more bid power tends to be very visible in absolute euros for shops with meaningful Shopping budgets.

German builds compounds, and shoppers type them

A German shopper searches Herrenschuhe, not Schuhe für Herren. German fuses words into single nouns, and that single noun is the query.

Feeds assembled by joining attributes in English word order produce titles that are grammatical and unsearched. If you change one field before launch, change the titles.

Austria speaks German, and uses different words

A German feed largely works in Austria, which makes it the cheapest second market on this list. But everyday vocabulary differs in places, and a handful of product words are simply not the same.

Treat Austria as a review pass over the German feed rather than a new translation.

What the margin costs a German shop

At 1.000 € a month in Shopping spend, up to 200 € is taken before the auction begins. Up to a fifth of every bid, which is industry experience and ours rather than a figure Google publishes.

It is not a line on an invoice. That is exactly why it runs for years without anyone querying it.

The shop systems here, and how they reach Merchant Center

Among Germany's 1,000 highest-revenue B2C online shops, the EHI/ecommerceDB study has ranked Shopware the most-used shop system for four consecutive years, at 11.5%. Broader technology-detection data covering all online stores, not just the top 1,000 by revenue, instead puts WooCommerce far ahead at 38.1% (ShopRank, June 2026), illustrating how much the ranking depends on which shops are counted. WooCommerce connects to Merchant Center via the official Google for WooCommerce plugin, JTL-Shop through an export extension from its own plugin store combined with a scheduled-fetch feed, and Shopware through Google Shopping plugins sold in the official Shopware Store.

Frequently asked

Do I need a German company to run this?

No. What matters is the Merchant Center account and the feed, not where the company is registered.

Does the same feed cover Austria?

Mostly. Same language, some different vocabulary. Review it rather than retranslating it.

Do my campaigns change?

No. Same campaigns, same bids, same Merchant Center. Only the service submitting the ad changes.

How big is the German market?

Around 84 million people, which makes it the largest market we sell into and the most competitive auction on the list. Click prices reflect that.

Do I need a German VAT number?

That depends on your own sales and structure, not on the CSS. Ask your accountant; switching comparison service changes nothing about your VAT position.

Will this break my existing Merchant Center setup?

No. Nothing about how your feed reaches Merchant Center changes. The switch is a single approval inside the account you already have, not a new integration.

Am I locked into anything by switching?

No. There is no contract length and no setup cost, and inside the first 60 days you can get a full refund without giving a reason.

Do you build a custom feed, or use what I already have?

We use the feed you already send to Merchant Center. There is nothing new to build, and no separate export just for us.

Who do I actually talk to if something needs fixing?

A real person on our side, not an anonymous ticket queue. Support, billing and cancellation are all handled from the same portal you use to add a shop.

Is there a limit on how many shops I can add?

No. Pricing is per shop with an automatic volume discount from five shops, calculated from your total. Adding more shops later just recalculates that total; it does not require a new agreement.

Does the switch pause my ads while Google processes it?

No. Your ads keep running the entire time, under whichever CSS is currently submitting them, until the new one is confirmed. There is no gap in coverage.

Is my data shared with anyone new by switching?

No. A CSS only submits the ad your Merchant Center feed already builds; it does not see your website, your customers or any data beyond what Merchant Center already exposes to any authorised party.

Does this work if I already run Performance Max, not just standard Shopping?

Yes. The bid-power effect applies to the Shopping portion of a PMax campaign specifically; the rest of the campaign runs exactly as before, because the switch happens in Merchant Center, not inside the campaign itself.
